Pizza Stop #12:
1000 Main St
I had never heard of this place before but a page follower (Steve) contacted me about it. He said it was great pizza and told me how his mom has managed this location for 37 years now. After a short chat I was intrigued so I set sail to check it out.
Google still shows it as a little hole in the wall location but apparently it was recently sold and remodeled so when I showed up it looked a lot different than I expected. I met Steve’s mom Millie and the rest of the staff and they all seemed like great people who enjoyed their jobs. The place had a nice neighborhood mom and pop vibe where I’m sure they know a lot of their customers on a first name basis.
As usual, I got my go-to toppings of sausage, pepperoni and green peppers. Despite this pizza being a 35minute drive away, I took it home in my newly purchased pizza bag and it got home still extremely fresh and hot. (Why didn’t I buy a pizza bag sooner?)
This pizza had a good flavor in the sauce. This one had a sweeter sauce but that is how I prefer it. Fresh green peppers that are actually slices rather than small chunks which was different. As you can see in the photo, they do not skimp on toppings either! The sausage was good… not the best I’ve had, but good.
Though I gotta say, while the pizza was great, I was not in love with the crust. While it still had a nice crisp, it was also a bit dense toward the bottom with a bit of a chew to it. It was good, but just not the traditional crust I prefer. That and they went a little too heavy with the green peppers which threw off the pizza balance.
